Living with ALS. Help for Bill

Donation protected
Bill Maier lives with the mysterious, debilitating, and fatal neurological disease https://www.google.com/" target="_blank">ALS . The same https://www.google.com/" target="_blank">ALS many associate with the popular “Ice Bucket Challenge” from  2014. Gradually, muscles in his body are losing connection with his brain. Large and small muscles alike are affected. Basic actions easily taken for granted, like pointing a finger, moving a tongue, speaking, or lifting a foot, have become nearly impossible tasks, as muscles no longer respond to commands from the mind. A once highly active, independent, and social man, Bill now relies on modern technology and the support of a committed care group to live with this condition.

Bill needs help and support to fulfill his desire to stay connected with his family, friends, caseworkers, doctors, nurses, caregivers, and neighbors. Money is being raised for the purchase and maintenance of critical, yet expensive tools including a speech device called a Tobii Dynavox and his motorized wheelchair. As the ability to talk or gesture with his hands has been taken, this speech device will allow Bill to communicate with his support team through the use of eye-movement detection technology. His wheelchair is his remaining contact with the world outside his bedroom and requires regular upkeep and maintenance.

Our goal is to raise $5,000.00 by March 30, 2018. Contributions go to help a man who continues to impact the lives of all around him. A man, who if you’d meet him, would prove to you the world is a beautiful place, the mind is more than a brain, and the heart is a door to truth.
