Bill Green's Pancreatic Cancer Fund

Donation protected
My name is Ryan Green and my mother and I are creating this GoFundMe for my father, Bill Green. On January 17th 2018 my father Bill was admitted to Beverly Hospital due to a persistent case of abdominal pain. Prior to his hospital visit his abdominal pain was thought to be rooted from a pre-existing medical condition that Bill has had for many years, called diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is a relatively common stomach condition that affects the digestive system and can cause large amounts of abdominal pain and other symptoms in people who suffer from the condition.

After routinely being scanned for his abdominal pain, it was determined that my father had some type of malignant growth in and around his pancreas and liver.. After a short period of time at home, Bill was readmitted to Beverly Hospital on January 22. After some time in the hospital it was determined that my father was suffering from his pre-existing diverticulitis and incidentally it was discovered that he is suffering from Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer which appears to have already spread to other areas in his body.

Up until the holidays, my father had no obvious signs of any serious illness. Physicians advised my family that pancreatic cancer is often found in the later stages due to the fact that symptoms are not often evident in patients who have developed this type of cancer. Patients who are diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer are often given a prognosis with an extremely small time frame of survival. At this time my family and I are doing everything we can to keep my father comfortable and happy. He is currently at a rehabilitation facility and will most likely be put into some type of palliative care facility and or hospice facility depending on how his condition progresses. At this time Bill has not decided if he would like to pursue chemotherapy or radiation; and surgery is rarely an option for pancreatic cancer patients. As of February 2nd 2018, we have been told that he has approximately three months to live. We are hoping that he can fight through this, and extend this number to stick around for as long as possible.

Bill has worked in many different occupations throughout his life. From construction, landscaping, and eventually for a local grocery chain in management for over thirty years and officially retired in 2012. He is currently 65 years old and has led a long and full life including many hobbies such as being an avid fisherman, an extremely talented drummer (He played in many Boston music scene rock bands in the 70’s), and collecting sports memorabilia. Bill is a kind hearted man who has been the best father a young man can ask for and a very strong and supporting husband for his loving wife. Bill is pictured above in an older photo, as he hasn’t wanted any photos taken of him while in rehab.

Being Bill’s only child, I am doing my best to pay for my fathers medical bills, however my mother and I are seeking any financial assistance we can get. We both work full time but we need help due to the unforeseen nature of Bill’s condition, and cancer related expenses can truly add up. Medical expenses are not always fully covered by my father’s health insurance and often require large copays. As you can imagine my father never saw this coming, nor did my mother and I. We do not expect anyone to be able to donate, as every family has their individual financial struggles and financial obligations. If you are not able to donate, we please ask if you can share my father’s GoFundMe campaign to friends and family via facebook who may be able to donate and to keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Any donated funds that exceed any medical expenses or other costs will be donated to a charity that benefits cancer research (charity yet to be determined, if you have any suggestions please feel free to reach out.) Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

We appreciate anything and everything. Ryan and Nancy
