Bill Buckles Recovery Fund

As many of you may or may not know, Billy started having some health issues at the beginning of the year. What he thought was just a matter of "finally feeling his age" progressed into much worse. He began slowly losing his coordination in his right hand and arm, and lastly his strength in his right leg--ultimately hindering his ability to walk with ease.

Thankfully, Russel--the woman that dad caretakes for--knew something wasn't right and finally convinced him to go down to the hospital that she had just recently retired from working at--St. Joseph's in downtown Phoenix. After a full body MRI, a cyst was detected on Billy's spinal cord at C1 and C2 of his vertebrae. He was immediately admitted into the hospital and scheduled for emergency surgery the next day.

On July 3, Dad underwent a five-hour surgery to remove most of the cyst and shave away some of the vertebrae to allow room for swelling, and the possible re-growth of the cyst. He spent five days in the ICU before stabilizing and moving to inpatient therapy. Two weeks of inpatient therapy helped Dad learn to get around in a wheelchair, feed and clothe himself, and teach him the exercises he would need to continue on a daily basis at home.

Dad was discharged and continues his recovery today. He is just getting to the point where he can take a few unassisted steps in his walker. His recovery will be slow, but we hope it to be successful. He has in-home therapy come once a week, and friends have already gone above and beyond to help with food, take him on outings, and help around the house with the horses, dogs, chores, etc.

Billy is a lucky man, and we are all lucky to have him in our lives. Brandon and I have both been down to help Dad out, and are doing all we can from afar. Dad faces a difficult financial battle that he would never ask anyone for help with. Brandon and I are biting the bullet to reach out for any financial help possible. At this point there is no telling how much this will cost, and for how long Dad may need assistance. We thank you in advance for your generosity during this time.

Best,
Brett and Brandon Buckles
