Biking for Black Babies
Biking for Black Babies is the first cycling tour focusing on Black Infant Mortality. Specifically, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health (2021) and the Centers of Disease Control (2020), Black infant mortality rate in 2018 was 10.8% compared to white infant mortality rate of 4.6%. Grievously, these statistics indicated current perinatal care interventions are not working and precious babies are dying.
On October 13, 2023, at 10:00 am our Cyclist will begin their tour journey from Wilmington, North Carolina and continue their journey through, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and ending in New Orleans, Louisianna. Since this is a cycling tour with the intention of fundraising and bringing awareness to Black Infant Mortality, the conclusion of the tour will take place in historic Congo Square.
Your sponsorship helps to defray costs associated with organizing this event. Sponsorship funds will be used to support 10 core cyclists and 5 alternate cyclists who make up our team. These funds will be used to secure accommodation, ground transportation (safety vehicle), fuel, essential support equipment to maintain the cyclists and keep them safe. Any additional funds remaining from the team sponsorship will be used for our 2024 event.
