Bike to Surf Worldwide

Help support My Wave Addiction's vision of a world in which our actions as individuals make a difference. Help bring Bike to Surf events to coastal communities around the world.

Hi everyone! It means the world to me that you've taken the time to visit my page. Here's the story behind Bike to Surf:

In early 2015 I made a decision to only go surfing by way of my bike for a year to create awareness about the ability that individual surfers have to lower their carbon emissions.

That decision led to the creation of the nonprofit My Wave Addiction. We create events and programs that promote environmentally conscious living in the lives of individuals.

Our first Bike to Surf event was held from September 12-19th of 2015, in honor of World Carbon Day, and surfers and beach goers were asked to choose at least one day during the week to use an alternate form of transportation to get to the beach. Options included biking, skating, walking and public transportation.

The event garnered international participation from individuals in seven different countries in North America, Europe, and Oceana, as well as the support of California State Senator Ben Allen, and organizations such as Sustainable Surf, Surfrider Foundation, CicLAvia, Surfers Against Sewage, and World Surf League.

In addition, one lucky winner from the event’s Instagram contest won a new surfboard by Earth Technologies, a company that makes surfboards out of 40 percent recycled foam and uses plant based bio-resins, promoting a more sustainable future in surfboard manufacturing.

Kasper, a participant in our most recent event, sent us his feelings on BTS from Denmark:

“I stumbled over the Bike to Surf event on Facebook and decided to join in, as I liked their message about getting to surf in an alternative way. I was the lucky receiver of one of the sponsor gifts, a Trace GPS, which is a fun little surf-tracking device. The organizers of My Wave Addiction are exceptionally friendly and helpful. I cross my fingers and hope that the event will be more widespread next year with even more people joining in and posting their stories. Thanks a lot for the event.”

We're reaching out to you now because MWA has thus far been primarily self funded, and the costs of maintaining our website, and organizing and marketing Bike to Surf events are many.

With your help, we can continue bringing environmental awareness to coastal communities around the world!

And we have some great news: our 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status means that all donations made are tax deductible.

Biking to surf is about more than just the one week. It’s about influencing multiple generations to change their habits, and to live more responsible, ocean minded lifestyles.

It’s no easy task, but the response from our maiden events show there are people out there who are ready to step up, who are ready to think and act differently, which is why My Wave Addiction wants continue to provide them with opportunities to do so through more Bike to Surf events to come.

Thank you for taking the time to watch our video and read about our cause. Your support truly means the world to us!
