‘Where girl talk gets real’
As women, we are bombarded with mixed messages from media and social platforms, and it is often hard to work out what is real and authentic. We are told how to look and live, but rarely do we see real life…the challenges, the struggles, the pressures, and basically just… real stuff. That’s why we feel that it is so important that young people have positive, REAL and authentic role models in their lives to discuss certain issues they may be experiencing.
We have created a new, modern program tailored specifically for teen girls, promoting wellness, self-love and awareness, using various art forms. BIG SISTERHOOD is here today to share, inspire, and to give young women a safe place to be vulnerable, but most importantly to find self-respect and confidence within themselves.
We have gathered together a group of powerful women and gender diverse people, who together, will be appearing in high schools Australia wide to share their experiences. Through personal storytelling, we cover topics such as mental health, body image, diversity, cultural differences, social media pressures, cyber safety, broken homes, sexuality/gender, LGBTIQA visibility and school/social culture.
Our innovative and empowering program also includes elements of interactive dance, live music and humour to connect with the students. Australia-wide, we aim to engage with young people, encouraging them to have authentic and real conversations to help balance their use of technology and social media. With resilience as a focus, Big Sisterhood fuse REAL TALK, current social issues, and entertainment to connect with and support young women.
For this to be done properly, Big Sisterhood are asking for financial support to help get this program off the ground. If you connect with what we are doing, feel there is a need for more ‘real talk’, and want to help make a positive change for young females, then we would love your support! The money raised will be spent on research, marketing, and to connect with health organisations, the government and councils. This will also aid in the development of our other programs, such as wellness camps, sister hubs, online teen magazines, film nights, Father or Mother/daughter nights, and so much more to complete and support this program.
We have already been blessed by so many amazing people jumping on board to support this journey – and we thank you all. We are forever grateful for your help, contribution and support, for what we think is a worthy cause.
We all talk about how we can help young women and people have a fair and even playing field for their future..... well this is how we get it. Be a part of this movement that will rock schools and improve our connection with teens and their relationship with the world.
Hope to connect in some way with you all,
Megan, Lucy, Brihony & Tarsh.
