Tldr - This is Biffles, Biffles needs an operation to fix her badly broken leg and currently I am in a terrible financial state due to a situation in work and having to take off sick with no sick pay. I would never normally do this, but Im reaching out for any kind of donation to help so I dont have to put my baby down, and show my parents that she deserves the chance to live. Now if you want the full story, please read on...
Hi! I'm Ruby, I'm a lover of animals and a hater of social interaction which Is why I spend most of my time online and with my pets. People ask me why ive so many pets, and I always say - "My animals are my life, theyve kept me on this earth when I wanted to leave. Without them, I wouldnt be here"
We have 4 cats, amongst other things... and they're all rescues that came to us feral, and in need of help. Biffles was probably the wildest, she got nicknamed "Hissy Spitty" for the first few weeks we knew her, she came to our farm tiny, skinny, attacked, and terrified but my mum and I always get the cats spayed to prevent more so we had to get her to trust us. After a few weeks she was starting to come around, she'd let us pet her and at one point jumped onto my knee when I was sat on a bale of straw, mum walked past and said "Looks like you two are Biffles (Bffl's)" and thats how she got her name.
She didnt have the best start in life, she was obviously attacked by other cats, she was covered in cuts and had some abcesses, shes also very small with a stumpy tail - I suspect some form of dwarfism from inbreeding in the wild cats in our area. It wasnt until she got spayed that we realised she wasnt only messed up on the outside, but the inside too. The vets told us her reproductive system was massively distorted, it was twisted, one side was essentially shriveled up and they had to operate from different angles to get her spayed correctly, so she had to be kept inside for 2 weeks. Until now the plan was that she return to the farm, but now she was with us. While she recovered we bonded, she became my Biffles Kitty, shed yap for me and cuddle me when I needed it, and when she was fully recovered I didnt want to let her go, so I kept putting it off... until one day mum said "lets see how she gets on outside with our other cats" and I knew that was it, she was staying.
This was October 2024, fast forward to April 4th 2025 and Biffles comes home with a limp, we left her overnight hoping it was just a sprain but from her crying I already knew it was more than a that so I took her to the vets in the morning. She behaved in the vets (for a cat in pain) she didnt totally try to take his eyes out while he felt her, and discovered she'd fractured her femur. She had xrays done and it was confirmed shed broken her leg, requiring a £5-600 operation to fix, coming to about 750 in total when meds were added. I was distraught, my parents had already decided if it was anything requiring an operation they werent doing it, they were going to have her put down because we cant afford it, shes not insured, and chances are she'd get released after healing and get lost, attacked, or hit again and it would be for nothing, plus we knew she was special and would likely have more issues in the future. I was sort of onboard at the time, thinking it would be atleast a thousand for an operation, but when he said 5-600 to me... I just couldnt justify putting a kitten under a year old to sleep over money that I wouldve spent on a tattoo someday. So, despite having to take off work for my mental health due to an ongoing issue and currently not even getting sick pay, I made the decision to go ahead with the operation - "I'll find a way"
So here I am, trying to find a way. I know there are some amazing people out there that would like to help, it doesnt have to be much, I will be more grateful than I could ever put into words for anything that will help me save my Biffles.
Love, Ruby and Biffs.
