Girma Funeral Fund

Hi friends, 

I'm so sorry to say that our dear friend Girma has passed away after a long and brave fight with leukemia. He was so strong throughout the whole process and was constantly displaying his usual kindness and thoughtfulness for everyone. Everytime we visited, we were struck by how doctors and nurses would go out of their way to tell us how great Girma was, how he would thank them for their efforts even when he was uncomfortable or not feeling well. Girma was a joy to those around him and we are thankful to have had him as a friend.

The one thing Girma was concerned about was leaving his wife, Koki. Anytime Koki would step out of the room, he would ask us to please make sure she is taken care of. We would like to honor his request by ensuring that Koki does not need to worry about any of the funeral costs. Fortunately, Girma's hospital bills have been covered by insurance, but the funeral costs are not. We have looked into State programs that would help with the costs, but he has fallen into a bit of a crack (he passed away outside of the county he was a resident in) and is not eligible to receive those funds. 

If you would please consider contributing or passing this along to others who might be able, we would appreciate it. Right now the funeral is tentatively planned for Thursday, July 17th in Northern Virginia (I will update as we have more details). Please send me a message if you are close by and would like more details. I know Koki would appreciate any support as her family and friends are far away right now.
