Medical Expenses and Bills

The three hardest words for me to say are, “I need help.” You see, I’m the fixer; I take care of others as best I can. For a while now, I’ve been working on that aspect of my personality.  Maybe that's been my mistake. Like asking for patience, I’m beginning to believe that the Higher Power teaches the level of humility and vulnerability one needs to ask for help by placing situations in our lives that force our hand.
For the last five years or so, I've been forced to deal with one health concern after another; each seemingly just as I get back to full-time hours.  And late last year it happened again. For several months, I’ve battled an extremely painful leg ulceration of still unknown origin.  Just after Thanksgiving, a deep infection set in and I was hospitalized for a week to prevent the infection from spreading into my shin bone, which would have resulted in amputation.
I was out of work for nearly 3 weeks during the busiest season on the year.  January and February are generally the slowest. We plan for December to carry us through January and February.  And with the continued level of pain I’ve only been able to work a couple of hours a day.
In addition to our regular bills piling up, I have 2-3 doctors’ appointments a week, with at least one being a high co-pay specialist. Also, there've been and are upcoming procedures that I have no idea how much the costs will be.  The medications prescribed for wound care, pain, and antibiotics are adding up quickly, too.
With my past health issues and the complications to life, Mark and I figured out solutions…largely without asking for help, and with humbled hearts learned to accept help that was offered.  This time, we’re backed into a corner, in many ways because of doing it ourselves.  Mark is doing much better at holding it together than I am.  At this point, I’ve realized that to care for my family, my business, and myself, I must ask for help and accept what is offered.  If you are able, it’s greatly appreciated.  And thoughts and prayers are most appreciated, too!
