Please help my grandparents rebuild

Please donate what you can, any little bit helps. If you can't donate, please help by sharing this story.

On March 19, 2020, my grandparent's house that they had been working on building themselves, out of pocket, for the last 4 and a half years, burned down. For the last 4 and a half years, they have dedicated themselves to rebuilding what used to be a dilapidated house to the home of their dreams free of a mortgage payment. They committed to living in an RV in the driveway with their 4 dogs and 3 cats to save money while they put every extra dollar they had towards rebuilding this home. Because the former house was in shambles, missing pipes and all, and not occupied, they were unable to get it insured.

Luckily, no one got hurt. My grandparents were leaving work when they got the call from a neighbor informing them their house was in flames. Even luckier, the RV in the driveway that had all the animals inside did not catch flame and the animals inside were okay. The animals did not escape the trauma, however, of being inside their home rapidly rising in temperature from the giant fire next to it. The side of the RV facing the house got warped and the screen door melted.

For the last 4 and a half years, my grandpa and great uncle personally rebuilt that house from the ground up. It was absolutely unrecognizable from what they had began with, which was a safety hazard of a place.  After all their years of patience and hard work, they were finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and projected the house to be complete and ready for move in by this summer. This was supposed to be the house they retire in. This year was supposed to finally be the year they complete their house and retire, mortgage free.

It was nothing short of heart-wrenching to receive news that their house they worked so hard for and put all of their money into, was totally burnt down.

This fundraiser is to help ease the pain of all the costs they are about to face with just clearing the lot so they can begin to rebuild. The plans to rebuild are nothing close to what they had before because they simply no longer have the time and money to spare.

All of this in the midst of a global epidemic targeting those over the age of 60 which they already had to worry about. My grandparents should be keeping safe at home, social distancing like the rest of us. Instead their health is put to the back burner right now while they deal with basic necessities, like getting their water hooked back up and power put back on. The fire destroyed all the things connected to the RV that made it hospitable for the last almost 5 years.

Cleaning up the lot of debris alone is going to cost $6,000. That is only the beginning of a long and hard enduring road ahead.
