With stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, too sick to work, unable to get health insurance Barbara needs our help to survive.
During this season of giving please consider helping…. any amount will make a difference towards saving her life. Her church, Christ United Fellowship, has pledged $2600 up front to encourage others to meet this signficant need.
This amazing woman has a story of overcoming obstacles through her faith and determination.
Born in 1981 in a small village in Uganda during a time of civil unrest, Barbara’s family fled their home in Mbale for safety ---only to enter a community with a polio outbreak. At 2 years old, Barbara contracted polio which attacked her legs, causing paralysis and her spine, causing scoliosis. She uses crutches to walk.
Growing up disabled in Uganda left little opportunity for Barbara, however, against all odds she got a college degree from Makerere University and then worked for the National Union of Women with Disabilities to help other women with disabilities learn skills to support themselves and their children.
In 2012 she relocated to the United States to pursue opportunity and a new life for herself. She became gainfully employed as customer service representative in a large company in Orlando, she rented a home, learned to drive and got a modified car so she could be independent. However, the cancer has left her unable to work, without health insurance, without income and ultimately homeless.
She is pursuing citizenship but is NOT currently eligible for any community subsidies, such as Medicaid, social security disability or even food stamps. We know Barbara through our church community and took her in to help--- but her medical bills are mounting and she is at risk for being turned away for inability to pay and overdue bills. Her doctor visits, treatments, medications, supplements, and diet are expensive. Some days are good, some days are bad but Barbara remains optimistic and has a real chance to live a good life if she can complete treatment. Please help.
