Two months ago my wife and I started the infertility process. We were given a price checklist from the infertility group detailing, what we thought, was everything associated with the in vitro process. We were approved via personal loan for the amount we believed we needed. We then began our genetic testing, blood work, and even ultrasounds to name a few. A few weeks ago, as the bills started coming in, we were informed certain medications we needed were not part of the check list, as were some procedures we were informed that were "rare" and "hardly ever used." Prices, such as the genetic testing, turned out to be three times higher than originally quoted. To this day we still have been unable to receive an explanation other than a billing estimate error. The new total price tag began to far exceed the amount we were approved for. Had my wife and I known the true cost of just one round of infertility, we would never have allowed ourselves to get this far into the process.
My wife and I are starting a GoFundMe to help cover the additional, fine print costs, of the infertility. We have suffered through an ectopic pregnancy, multiple miner laproscopic surgeries for endomitriosis, and even a small brain tumor pressing on her pituitary gland, disrupting normal production of her own eggs.
For the past decade, I have had to watch my wife suffer in pain, as she holds out for the one hope she can be a mother. I want to give her the gift of carrying our child, feel it kick in her womb, to know she has our baby growing inside her. We are not looking for round after round of in vitro, but just one chance to see if we can be parents. My wife and I would be eternally grateful for any and all assistance in helping with the unforseen costs, as none of the additional, fine print fees are covered by insurance. We also welcome any guidance or recommendations from those who have been down this path before. Because we are so far along in the process, there is no turning back without losing everything that got us to this point.
