Hello, and thanks for checking out our campaign! We're Hannah Giorgis and Melissa Centeno, two recent Dartmouth grads from different corners of the country and the African diaspora. This spring, we organized a conference for students from universities across the United States to gather and address under-represented student experiences.

We are now in the process of turning the stories shared into a book to further amplify student voices, but we need your support to make this book a reality! In order to continue the necessary research, write and edit submissions, and work alongside our professional editors, we need to relocate to New York.
We are working to publish this book for three reasons:
1) All students deserve to learn without fear of discrimination. People of color, LGBTQ individuals, low-income students, and women should be no different, especially because these many identities overlap and intersect.
2) Discrimination does not occur solely in "isolated incidents," and our narratives deserve to be heard within the larger context in which they occur.
3) Prospective students deserve to hear the authentic experiences of their peers. Universities are to be held accountable to the students they serve, and we refused to be featured in every campus brochure as physical evidence of "diversity" without receiving adequate support from our administrations.
One of the major reasons student narratives do not leave their respective universities is due to a lack of funding; as working class women of color, we continue to grapple with a lack of resources that our peers do not face--even as Ivy League graduates.
We need your help to cover one month of living expenses while we take the necessary time away from work to focus on all that this book project entails.
During this time, our apartment will serve not only as a personal living space, but also as a safe space for individuals in our new community who must face the same issues within higher education that our book will illuminate: namely, discrimination as a result of sexism, racism, rape culture, classism, and queerphobia in the world around them. Our funding will go toward acquiring and furnishing this communal space.
If granted funds, we will work within close proximity of advisors who can ensure the voices of our peers will make it onto published paper. We will also work diligently to host small events, support groups, and creative workshops for the communities our work will most affect. As organizers, we have extensive experience creating healing spaces in hostile climates, but we need the resources to do so!
We are seeking any contributions, even the smallest ones! We know how much small collective efforts can amount to, and we are excited to see how this project grows. If you contribute over $50, we will send you a commissioned poem or painting. Contributions over $100 will be acknowledged with either a poem and/or painting as desired, and a presentation detailing the progress we have been able to make thanks to your generosity!
