Moldova Teen Awareness Skills Camp

This summer, I will spend 10 days of my holiday traveling to Moldova to help host an Awareness and Skills Camp for teen orphans, in partnership with New Hope Moldova. Moldova, the poorest nation in Europe, is home to 200,000 orphans. At 16, these children are discharged from state orphanages, put out on the street with no money, very little education, a passport branding them as orphans, and a shattered sense of self-worth.
Opportunities are limited and Moldovan teens are in a dangerous position. More than 20,000 girls are trafficked each year from Moldova, most dying within a few years due to the bruatlity of sex work and abuse. Young boys are recruited to the mafia.
New Hope Moldova , a Christian organization, is working the provide the solutions the local government is unwilling or unable to offer. The largest anti-trafficking organization in Moldova, New Hope runs seven transition homes for these teens, and, each summer, seeks to reach as many teens as possible through Awareness & Skills Camps. Each year, up to 4,000 teens spend 6 days with New Hope team and volunteers, gaining practical skills, encouragement, and hope for their future.
Skills include computer training (my planned contribution!), English as a second language, gardening, technical skills, hair and makeup training, and more.
I will travel with a team from my church, C3 Amsterdam and Arnhem, to host a camp in July 2017. Our team will fully fund the camp.
Each member of the team will contribute at least €750, via their own resources and personal fundarising. Your contribution help with the following:
- Enable more teens to participate in the camp. Our current budget allows for 100 teens; maximum capacity is 200.
- Operational costs for the camp
- Helping defer costs for team members who have the time and will to serve, but lack financial resource.
It costs €50 for each teen to participate in the camp. That's one nice dinner; a new sweater; six months of Netflix -- for a message of hope that could change the life of a child forever.
Thanks to your generosity, I've already been able to transfer €1,000 to begin arranging logistics and travel—this is going to help us secure lower prices! Our deadline to have all funds raised is 15 May.
