Bev's Stage 4 Lung Cancer Fund

Donation protected
Lung cancer is America's number one cancer killer.  As a non-smoker with no symptoms, Bev was shocked to be diagnosed with this aggressive disease.  She is only 57 years old and has had no other health issues.  She is a devoted wife, amazing mom and loving grandmother.

My name is Tonya and I'm Bev's daughter.  I'm still in shock to know that my mom has lung cancer.  She lives a healthy life and is the sweetest person I know.  My mom is pure love and kindness.  Everyone loves her!  She is always helping and caring for others and this is why I'm reaching out to you and asking for you to help my mom now.  My kids and I need my mom to be around for a long time.  I need my mom.

Let me start at the beginning.

How It All Began:
On Thursday January 4, 2018, Bev got sick with what appeared to be influenza, however she never had a fever.  She was the sickest she has ever been, so that following Monday she went to her doctor where a chest x-ray was taken.  The x-ray showed a walnut size mass in her upper right lung.

Due to this mass, a CT scan was done two days later and the radiologist confirmed that the mass was lung cancer.  On Friday the 12th, an MRI showed no masses on her brain.  This was such a huge relief because Bev had been experiencing horrible headaches.  However, a PET scan on the 15th did show that there was possibly cancer also in the lymph nodes along the right side of the esophagus.

A biopsy was performed on February 5th and it did confirm that there is cancer in these lymph nodes.  This is when we were told that it was stage 3 lung cancer.

Oncologist:
We met with the Sanford Bemidji Oncologist on February 13th.  This is where we heard the words...Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) Adenocarcinoma Stage 3.  The oncologist stated that surgery to remove the tumor wasn't an option because it had spread to the lymph nodes.  The only option was 6-7 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation.

Many people had encouraged Bev to get a second opinion.  So on February 16th, we met with an oncologist at the University of MN.  This oncologist agreed with the first one and offered no additional options.

During this appointment we were told that 50% of patients with this cancer, who did the suggested chemo/radiation, lived for 2.5 years.  YES, you read that right, only 50%!  And the oncologist wouldn't even talk about the 5 year mark.

So Now What?
50% odds are not okay.  Bev has been given one treatment option from the oncologist and that option comes with the odds of a coin flip.  So we began to reach out to several doctors outside of the oncology world.

During this research, we found a medical institute in Mexico that focuses on long-term health.  Bev would be working directly with the doctors to develop a customized individual medical plan, so she then can come back home and incorporate this plan into her daily life.  While at home, the doctors in Mexico will continue to monitor her, along with her primary care doctor.

We all feel that this is truly the best option for my mom and that she will one day be cleared from cancer. She will be alive and healthy to see her grandkids graduate from high school, get married and that one day she will also be a great-grandma.

Why Funds Are Needed:
Although Bev does have medical insurance; they will only cover the one option given by the oncologist.

The medical institute in Mexico will cost $12,000 plus the airfare to/from San Diego.  She will also need $2,500 in equipment at home to be able to continue the medical plan specifically designed for her.

How You Can Help:
