Hello All,

My name is Ms. Frankie Harris, and I am writing and reaching out to you for my daughter Beverley Harris-Alvarez. Many of you know her as Bev, a veteran of the Air Force, a mother of three children and two beautiful grandchildren. Bev is a very strong, independent woman who would give her last to help strangers, friend’s, and family.

Beverley had a regular doctor appointment at the VA Clinic on July 25, 2018. Regular check-up everything was fine. Later that week she started feeling sick, she returned to the doctor’s office on July 27, 2018 to find out that she had Strep throat and prescribed antibiotic’s. Beverley was also having pain in her right leg but thought it was just the insect (bug) bite that was causing the pain. The doctor looked at her right leg and sent her straight to the ER at Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia.

On July 27, 2018, Beverley was admitted in Dekalb Medical Center, Decatur, Georgia. She was diagnosed with Right Leg Cellulitis. Cellulitis occurs when bacteria, most commonly streptococcus and staphylococcus, enter through a crack or break in your skin. The incidence of a more serious staphylococcus infection called methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is increasing.

Although cellulitis can occur anywhere on your body, the most common location is the lower leg. Bacteria are most likely to enter disrupted areas of skin, such as where you've had recent surgery, cuts, puncture wounds, an ulcer, or dermatitis. Animal bites can cause cellulitis. Bacteria can also enter through areas of dry, flaky skin or swollen skin. The doctors at Dekalb Medical Center, were able to slow down and stop the infection before it could spread to her organs.

As of August 10, 2018, Beverley is now home but her recovery process from this deadly infection is long and difficult. She will have to use a walker, have a home attendant to help with her daily needs. As a result, Beverley will be unable to work to take care of herself, her family, and will not be able to go on her daily walks with her dog Lucky.

As Beverley’s mother, I am setting up this GoFundMe to raise funds to help Beverley with her medical, bills, and necessities for her family.

A donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated in helping my daughter, our friend Beverley (Bev) Harris-Alvarez.

Thank you from the Harris & Alvarez Family!
