This all started in late 2016 when my mom was diagnosed with a rare blood disease called MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome)...It is such a rare disease that they didn't even have many treatment options until the last few years when stem cell transplants began to be an option to treat it... My mom is a healthy vibrant awesome 76 year old woman who really seems more like she's 55...! We went into this full force helping her to find the very best Dr's we could..and researching researching researching to see what all the possibilities were for her.... We landed at Cedars-Sanai Medical Center and found an incredible Dr who she started a regime of chemo with...The chemo is something that none of us ever wanted to put her on as it tends to be the thing that actually kills people in the long run with all of it's secondary side effects....but we decided to move forward with her Dr and to follow the protocol because the disease is a beast and we wanted to keep it controlled as long as possible....Her treatment that she has been doing the past year is designed to try and keep this disease at bay and to get her strong enough for a stem cell transplant. Eventually this disease turns into AML (acute myeloid leukemia)...which is one of the most aggressive forms of Leukemia out there.....She has been fighting this disease with everything she has....and we were gearing up for a transplant when we discovered that she had developed anti-bodies in her blood plasma due to several blood transfusions that she had. These developed anti-bodies would force her body to reject anyone that was an actual match for her transplant.....During the process of an stem cell transplant they actually kill your entire immune system and then replace it with a donor's stem cells so that you can grow a healthy totally new and different immune system than your own faulty one....your blood type even changes into the donor's blood type! pretty miraculous..but also highly risky ...especially when you have developed high titer anti bodies which would potentially force your body to reject any and all matches and donors that could've potentially helped to save your life! SO!...we have been at a stand still...continuing to do more chemo to keep this disease under control while we search for any and all alternative possibilities to heal her and for her to have many more years on this planet without this stupid blood disease.... WELL! we found an incredible Dr who uses alternative stem cell treatment...and who flies under the radar of the FDA..in order to treat this disease from the inside out..WITHOUT CHEMO...WITHOUT DRUGS AND ANTIBIOTICS...WITHOUT TRADITIONAL WESTERN WAYS....and we are beyond excited to embark on this journey to save my mom's life and for her to be on the other side of this disease and to live out her next best chapter yet .... Here is where the go-fund-me comes into play...This Dr does not take insurance and we would love to start her on this treatment ASAP!!... So we are wanting to raise money fast to help pay for this Dr's ability to try and help her....Any help would be beyond appreciated..and we really believe in the power of people helping people...
