Bert Perry Memorial Fund
Bert Perry was killed in an avalanche on December 19th, along with his friend Jeff Paffendorf. Bert leaves behind my dear friend, and his wife Angie Perry. I am starting this fund to help Angie. I am hoping that, in a small way this will help her get through this most difficult time by helping her finish building their house.
Bert spent 25 years in the San Juans directly helping hundreds of us create something special in our lives. Whether it was a home he built, a day spent climbing a peak, or a property that he helped us find, Bert lived a life that was unencumbered by everyday challenges. He rose (too) early and and was the last to quit, because there was always time to do a little more. And with his contagious smile and casual willingness to make things happen, we all found more joy in our days than we often thought possible.
Bert supported his friends, co-workers and clients everyday in a way that was honest, trusting and rock solid. His relationship with Angie was all that and more - building a life together that supported their passions and offering each the space to make their own contribution to our lives. Angie is a nurse and has selflessly been there for hundreds of patients as an essential—and humble—servant to our community attending to COVID patients and those with recent surgery.
After years of taking care of us, it’s time to help complete one long-term dream in Bert’s honor. Bert and Angie started building their own home together this fall, and Bert was doing much of that work himself. There is a lot of work still to do, and without Bert, there is a small army less labor available to do it. Let’s help finish this project for Angie, and for Bert, by contributing what we can. The next step is literally to “raise the roof” to seal the structure in for winter.
Your passion for the mountains and our community honor what Bert gave to all of us. If you have time, skills or any way to pitch in... generosity is welcome in all it’s forms.
Bert was a beloved friend and an amazing man. He will surely be missed.
