Raising money in aid of BERROW SCHOOL ASSOCIATION for the ‘Pupil Kitchen Project’ . Thank you in advance for your contribution.
Berrow school is a village school accommodating approximately 200 pupils aged between 4 and 11 years old and we are looking to build a pupil kitchen within an area of the school. This will involve closing off a space with fire proof materials including the installation of fire doors. The area will then accommodate child sized kitchen equipment along with tables and stools to enable planning, tasting and interactivity.
Not all children are academic and it is important to ensure that a variety of subjects are offered to all children in order that all can fulfil their potential in whatever area their talents lie.
The provision of the kitchen would aid all areas of the curriculum and would be a vital tool in the education of our children. Numeracy is supported by the use of measurements and quantities, literacy in the writing out of recipes, science by experimenting what happens if you don’t follow the recipe and use different quantities, geography in finding out about the different foods which are eaten all around the world and history where food has evolved over the ages.
A garden and allotment has already been created at the school, with children growing their own produce and we see the kitchen as a means to extent this cycle of cooking healthy produce that they have nurtured and grown themselves.
The kitchen would not only greatly improve resources for teaching, it will also provide the children with vital life skills along with promoting healthy eating.
Who knows we may even have some future Michelin starred chefs in the making!
Please help us achieve our goal which we believe is life changing.
