Bernice’s Vet Bill

Donation protected
On 10/8/18 we lost our sweet Bernice to post surgery complications. I met her in 2009 when she was only 5 weeks old. She was the runt of the litter and had extremely low blood sugar when she was taken from her mother. My family and I nursed her back to health and she lived a full  9 1/2 years.
Her health was always very sensitive, we had a few scares over the years and when it was time to get her spayed, she was not in the best of health to go through anesthesia and surgery.
Years passed, she became my best friend and tiny partner. She moved to San Francisco with me and we both fell in love with a man named Patrick who became the world to us both. We adopted another pup named Ted and together we formed a beautiful family.

A few days ago, however, we noticed her belly was distended so we rushed her to the emergency vet immediately. The doctors told us she may have Pyometra- an infection in the uterus; A disease we knew to be fatal. The doctors performed the surgery and as the cost on the bill began to rise- we decided to take her home with us so that we can find a non-emergency hospital after the weekend for her recovery. Her last night at home, it seemed like she was doing much better. We consistently made sure she was hydrated throughout the night with a small water dropper and she even ate small bits of salmon that we cooked for her. She still responded with her famous head tilt to her favorite word “Turkey”, giving us hope that she would be ok.
The next afternoon, her heartbeat became shallow and fast and within minutes she stopped breathing as we held her tightly in our arms.

Losing Bernice is the hardest thing I have ever personally experienced. She was 3lbs of pure love & magic. Patrick and I would do anything in this world to make her healthy and happy. Although the pain is immense, we are thankful we were both by her side on her last moments on earth.

Sadly, the hospital bill was beyond what we could afford. We don’t expect to meet the total of it through donation but ANYTHING helps. We know she touched the lives of many.

We have had so much emotional support from family and friends already so thank you all for comforting us in this time. Your love is SO appreciated.

Bernice in our hearts forever. ❤︎❤︎❤︎
