David Berman Family Fund

On October 7th, 2013, David Berman passed away suddenly in his home, leaving his family and friends stunned and saddened by the loss. Though he had a lifelong struggle with his health, none of them were truly prepared for such a sudden end. He left behind Lacy, the love of his life, their children, Savanna, Jacob and Lola, his mother, father and a large extended family. They have each other, but they don't have much else.
David faced seemingly insurmountable medical odds to reach adulthood, gathering a wide circle of friends along the way. His interests were eclectic and ranged from history to baseball to flea market pillaging. He had a steady dart hand, a sharp wit and dogged determination. He could talk to anyone, and Lacy often found strangers bending his ear in the supermarket. With his soul mate and his children centering his universe, he lived the fullest life given to him.

David was the primary breadwinner in the house. His ability to work was often compromised by his illness. They lost their house in New Bedford during the recession and they have no savings. While they have safe haven with David's mother, Jacob is a freshman at Boston College, Savanna has school loans, Lola is only five, and they have no car. We are reaching out to their large community of family and friends to ask for any help they can give. We know many of you don't have a lot. But if all of us give a little, then maybe we can take the fear and worry of a financial transition away at least. Their primary need right now is a car. (If anyone has a used car they can donate please contact Lacy.) Anything that is left over after they pay their bills will go into a fund for the children for college.

Lacy and David's friends and family have been so supportive. They have sent food and flowers and come to the house and hugged Lacy and done dishes and played with Lola. For all of those who want and can do more, help us take a little of the burden away from this family, so they can grieve and hold on to each other and take their first steps forward without fear.
