Berkshire Thrift

We are launching a community thrift store that will help many people in our community and beyond.....and we need your help!!!

Our Mission

Berkshire Thrift will be working directly with local nonprofits and community organizations to provide people experiencing big life changes with the clothing, furniture, and home goods that they need to begin to rebuild their lives. Berkshire Thrift will coordinate with local organizations to determine who in the community is most in need, from those leaving transitional housing and abusive relationships to those who have job interviews but can't afford a suit. Berkshire Thrift will operate like a standard thrift store - selling donated or found items at a low price - while offering free vouchers to community members who need help getting back on their feet. We hope to open our store to the public by November 2017.

This is our new building!!!

What We Need

The store needs some investment to get the doors open.  We have rented a building for Berkshire Thrift in New Lebanon, NY, but we need to raise capital to make the space safe and accessible to those with disabilities. Additionally, we will need to purchase store shelving, a cash register, lighting fixtures, clothes racks, and more.  We also need to do some repairs and upgrades to meet local codes.  To help keep costs down, we will be buying as many of these items second-hand as possible, as well as accepting material donations. Lastly, we have to get insurance (around $2000 a year) as well as building permits and a business license.

This is some of what we need to clean up and refurbish....

We will gather clothing and home goods donations from local residents, garage sale leftovers, building cleanouts and so forth.  We already have a huge inventory and are taking more donations all the time.  If you are in the New Lebanon, NY area, the Berkshires or the surrounding area, please do not hesitate to let us know if you have items you would like to donate.

As you can see from some of the photos, we have some work ahead of us and a bunch of things we need to purchase to get up and running.

-labor (hopefully provided by volunteers)
