Hello! For those who don't know us, my name is Angela and my husband is Bill. I am 32 and he is 34. We were married 09/09/09 and have been trying to have a baby since shortly before that.
In January of 2013 I started undergoing treatment with a reproductive endocrinologist (RE) to figure out what was wrong. After several apointment, blood draws, semen samples, and xrays we were officially categorized as unexplained. Meaning all of our testing came back as normal and there was no explanation for our infertility.
3 months after my HSG I had a follow up to see what our next steps would be. At that appointment they found a large cyst on my right ovary that would need to be dealt with before we could do anything else. Treatment for a cyst that large is a month of birth control pills, followed by surgery if it does not shrink on the birth control. We found out later that day that I was, for the first time in 5 years pregnant spontaneously.
That pregnancy ended 14 days later. I had to make the choice between life or death, as the pregnancy turned out to be ectopic. I had explorative surgery that confirmed the ectopic and resulted in me also losing my left fallopian tube. The cyst that was growing ever larger on my right ovary was also removed.
During the surgery and through subsequent bloodwork it was found that I have endometriosis and a clotting disorder. My right tube looked healthy and is clear, however the assumption is that it does not work.
Following the surgery we still attempted several medicated rounds to try and stimulate my right ovary. We were successful one month and followed with an IUI, but that also resulted in a negative.
It is the opinion of my RE that my final diagnosis is tubal disease related infertility. Meaning my remaining fallopian tube does not function properly. He believes this is evidenced by the fact that once my damaged left fallopian tube was open, I quite easily became pregnant on my own without intervention.
That leaves our only hope of having children being IVF. We choose IVF as the success rate I have been given with my diagnosis is about 75%. It is also more affordable then domestic infant adoption and also allows me to experience pregnancy, one of the greatest desires I have ever had.
IVF however is not covered by our insurance plan. IVF is considered a cosmetic procedure by insurers, and as such they will not pay for any medication or treatment relating to it. This leaves us with very few options. We cannot currently be approved for the financing that is available, and we do not have anyone that can cosign that loan for us. That leaves us with the only option being to pay cash up front.
Because we are paying cash, I have found a clinic in New York State that is significantly more affordable then any of the clinics that are local to me. That however still leaves us with needing to raise close to $10,000. All funds received for this campaign go directly to paying for either the medication I need for IVF, or for the procedure itself. The breakdown of the cost is as follows:
Cycle Cost: $4,800
Meds: $4-6,000
Travel $200
