SAXTON/HUIZINGA HOME LOST TO FIRE

Donation protected
In the early afternoon of Friday, October 27th, in less than 5 minutes my family and I saw our home go up in flames. My 95 year old grandma, Dorothy Saxton owned the home, and I lived and worked there for nearly three years as her primary full time caregiver. My parents, Donna and Bill Huizinga, and my now 18 year old son, Aidan Sanders moved in with us in April while renovating an outbuilding on the property into a home for them. My grandma and mom were home when the fire started. They both would have been lost with the house, if the three electricians (with the aptly named Extra Mile Electric) working on the new house didn't risk their own lives running into the inferno to save them. My grandma is currently in Harborview ICU burn unit where she was airlifted that fateful day. Her prognosis is grim, with burns on her arms, legs, chest, and head. My mom was treated for smoke inhalation and has made a full recovery. We had 6 dogs and 2 cats. The cats and 3 of the dogs were rescued and are safe with us. The other 3 dogs (2 miniature poodles and a chihuahua) weren't so fortunate. We've lost every possesion, everything. Except for what was in our cars and on our backs. Red Cross and the fire insurance is currently helping us with lodging in a motel, and with some emergency funds for clothing, shoes, food, pet supplies. But there is so much more to consider, I have a new horse named Luna whom I pay to have boarded every month, and her heavy winter blanket and tack, brushes, etc. that I had just purchased was also lost in this devastating fire. We are grateful for what we DO have left (each other!) and trying to remain positive. But we have a long road ahead, if you are able to donate even the smallest amount, it will help us in the rebuilding and restructuring of our homes and lives, and take some burden off of my dad especially, who at 77 years old is wearing himself pretty thin trying to get everything figured out.
