BeOne Community + Cops Mindfulness
BeOne Community + Cop Mindfulness Initiative
Hi, we are Embodied Workplace , an M/WBE (minority women owned) organization. In the spring of 2018, we set out to understand police officers, the communities they serve and explore how meditation and yoga could benefit them.
Within 3 months, we had visited NYPD Precincts throughout NYC from the 109th in Flushing Queens to Manhattan's One Police Plaza to the 84th and 88th Precincts in Fort Greene, Brooklyn speaking with Police Officers and their Leadership. During our meetings, one thing became clear, many cops are overworked and overstressed and actively seeking tools to help lead from a place of calmness and clarity. We weren't surprised by this as information as high stress levels among police range from 33% - 46%.
Embodied Workplace's Joint BeOne Joint Community + Cop Mindfulness Initiative is the first collaborative event of its kind bringing together police and their communities to practice Yoga and Meditation together. It's a free event!

Multiple studies have found that mindfulness (yoga & meditation) practice leads to less stress, less reactivity, decreased race and age bias and reduced discriminatory behavior. Research: Mindfulness Decreases Implicit Bias
Because the NYPD doesn't have the ability to organize this kind of public facing initiative (strict guidelines surrounding promotion), we have stepped in to organize and fundraise. We'd like to create these events throughout the city and eventually across the nation.
The first event will take place in Fort Greene Park at the Lawn South of the Monument on September 22nd 2018 at 11AM. Embodied Workplace is bringing together officers of the 88th Precinct and people from the community. Your participation in the event along with your donation is encouraged.
