Our Senior Center has been involved with a Drumming for Wellness program for about 9 months. We are working with Mary Knysh who travels the world teaching drumming circles and she has called us her Ambassadors for Drumming for Wellness. We have learned to play and make our own drums and, also have learned the ukuele and boom whackers . Our goal is to reach out in the community and share what we have learned, It has been proven that music stimulates the brain, gives a feeling of happiness and well being. So far we have visited all the senior centers in Columbia and Montour counties, and a nursing home. Mary has a drumming program she will be teaching in Barbados and as her ambassadors we have been invited to share what we have learned and to help them make drums. There is a core group of 5 dedicated to this trip. It is scheduled for May 6 to May 12th. Since we are senior citizens on fixed budgets we thought we would ask for a little financial help towards airfare and lodging. We are a small town senior center in Penna with big hearts and lots of get up and go. We are The Benton Boom Whackers!
