Benson Huth was born with HIE.

What is HIE?
Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) is a type of brain damage that occurs when an infant’s brain doesn’t receive enough oxygen and blood.

HIE  is a brain dysfunction caused by a reduction in the supply of oxygen to the brain and other organs (hypoxia), compounded by low blood flow to vital organs (ischemia). Encephalopathy refers to any condition that results from reduced blood and oxygen supply to the brain.

Since this is considered a brain injury, the time of the oxygen deprivation generally relates to the perinatal period, just before and just after delivery.

HIE caused by asphyxia is the leading cause of infant fatalities in the United States, as well as the primary source of severe impairments.

Benson survived a very traumatic birth, and now is fighting everyday for his life.  He is in the process of being admitted to a trial using allogenic Stem cell therapy through Duke children's, and has a daily routine of medical intervention at his home in Asheville, North Carolina.

The effects he experiences include developmental delays, epilepsy, cognitive issues, motor skill development delays, and neurodevelopment delays.

Ryan and Stephanie Huth work each day to ensure Benson is getting the appropriate treatment, while also raising their other two children Juliette (4) and Porter (2).

Their bedroom has been transformed into a semi medial facility to support all of Benson's needs.  The cost of equipment & care is steep, and the need for nurses and support staff add to the expense list.

Any donation you provide will go directly to supporting Benson and the Huth family, as they work treatments to improve his condition and support his life.

Thank you for your kindness in support of this young man and his loving family.
