Help to Get Benne Back on his Feet
Donation protected
Hey friends. My name is Katie Baird; my husband is Benne Baird, and we have a 2 almost 3 year old boy named Willie. Back in November of 2021, on my husband's last day of work I got a call from my Benne slurring his words and hearing his boss trying to explain where they were going. Because, he had a roll-up garage door break and slammed on top of his head, receiving 4 staples and a laundry list of tests. Leading him to now have persistent post-concussion syndrome. He suffers every single day with horrible migranes, feeling dizzy, not able to drive at night or in the rain, light sensitivity, he's even had minor memory issues (ex: forgetting how to dial a number that he was looking at) and theres many more stuggles that he faces weekly but every day changes with his head. Before Benne was going to offically quit his job that he dedicated just over 6 years to, he got us our forever dream home/property to start farming part time and he was going to begin truck driving full time again. But after the head injury, he is so medically restricted with what he can do that its impossible to go back to a full time job. He has seen over a hand full of doctors trying to figure out how to treat him. So far, they've attempted prescription medications, tinted glasses, eye exercises, and wanted to try chiropractic and physical therapy, nothing seems to work. But the workman's comp is denying to pay for chiropractic treatment and physical therapy, which they haven't given us a straight answer as to why. So far, what has helped is his sunglasses (that he also uses inside and if we are traveling at night, him being the passenger), also finding dark, quiet areas in our home to decompress. His primary doctor has recommended going in for intense therapy at a clinic in Iowa for a week, which has had great success with close friends and family. Even some of her patients have given great feedback about it, but they don't take insurance and it costs around $7,000.
We are hoping and praying to make it to our goal to help not only with the clinic in Iowa but for essential bills/needs that haven't stopped coming, unexpected vehicle repairs that we just don't have the money for and we would also be using the money that is donated to go towards lawyer fees. Since Bennes accident we have not gotten any support from workman's comp. They have been fighting with us since day 1 and now they are completely denying that Benne has any medical issues/disabilaty what so ever, along with the employer denying any acknowledgement of the accident. We completely drained our bank account just to survive. We are suffering mentally, both Benne and I. We also can barely keep going to these appointments because of the inflation contiuing to raise prices.
It's been so hard, but we are trying to be strong and live as normal of a life as possible especially for our son. Any amount of money can't and won't make our life perfect, but it can lower the stress and depression that has swarmed/consumed us for the past 7 months.
Currently we are just hoping and praying for a miracle at this point, along with finding therapists that not only specialize in mental trauma but that take our insurance. If you find it in your heart to donate it will be so immensely appreciated and we are forever grateful! Please continue or put us in your thoughts and prayers are always appreciated!
