Benjamin's Medical Fund

Our nephew, Benjamin Soto, has been battling serious medical issues with his brain. When he was 18, in May, 2015, his vision began to blur, he was dizzy and couldn't walk straight. At first he was diagnosed with vertigo. But time passed and he lost his appetite, fatigued easily and then was unable to walk without assistance. He was finally diagnosed with a brain tumor and soon after blood tests also revealed tuberculosis.  He underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor then subsequently had cranial surgery again for placement of a VP (ventriculoperitoneal) shunt to relieve pressure on the brain caused by fluid accumulation, a condition called hydrocephalus. This tubing went from his brain down to his abdomen, allowing the fluid to drain. He also went onto a yearlong antibiotic regimen. His family struggled to find the funds necessary for payment of the surgery and extremely costly antibiotics but was fortunate to get a loan. The family believed all was well.
Nine months later in February, 2016, 19 years old, he once more begins to see double, loose his appetite and get dizzy. This time they discover his body is not reabsorbing the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) and he is now has a cyst about the size of a balloon in his stomach carrying the fluid. He undergoes abdominal surgery. The family thought NOW he will recover...
To our dismay in June, 2017,he again started exhibiting symptoms of hydrocephalus. He underwent another brain surgery to replace the infected shunt in his brain and abdominal surgery to replace the infected tubing and remove the accumulated CSF. Unfortunately in August he again started to exhibit symptoms of hydrocephalus, showing that his brain was still accumulating excess fluid. Due to the persistent complications of his shunt he had brain surgery, ETVC (endoscopic third ventriculosotomy) where an opening is created in the floor of the brain ventricle to normalize pressure of the brain without using a shunt. To our great disappointment, due to complications, the surgery was unsuccessful. 
Benjamin, now 20 years old, has endured four brain surgeries and on September 7,2017, has had his third abdominal surgery to place a valve on the shunt in his stomach which will collect the CSF which will be periodically drained manually when needed.
Friends and family have contacted us asking how they may help financially. After several insistent requests and with their encouragement we decided to set up this campaign for anyone who is able and willing to help with the recent surmounting medical costs these three past months which have exceeded $25,000 USD.
