Benjamin's Fight

I created this page for my Godson Benjamin Parker and his parents Carrie (Johnson) Parker and George Parker.
Benjamin is such a loving strong boy, with an amazingly huge heart. He has been through more in his 14 years, than the highest majority would encounter in a lifetime. At the age of 11 months, Benjamin had major brain surgery at Boston Children's Hospital, to control what was diagnosed as "infantile spams", the worse type of seizures any person could encounter, as they cause the most brain damage. He was having roughly 30 a day !! Doctors removed almost the entire side of his brain, and prepared us for the worse out come , developmentally. Through vigorous therapy and an abundance of love from our entire friends and family, Benjamin had beaten so many odds. Through the next 13 years, while Benjamin was not the "typical child', as he does have many developmental delays, Benjamin had continued to fight, not letting the "odds" beat him. While he has many learning challenges, he will tell anyone every single player on the New York Knicks basketball team, his favorite being Carmello Anthony. You cannot convince him that there is anyone better!! Unfortunately, last year all of these gains had come to a sudden halt. Benjamin was bullied for many weeks, which ultimately escalated into Benjamin being PHYSICALLY assaulted. From this point, almost immediately, Benjamin began having very bad anxiety, along with blackout, which were diagnosed as a serious form of PTSD. Therapy, medications, counseling, were immediately put into place. New school placement also was implemented, as this was one of the triggers, as the kids that assaulted him, attended the same school. While we felt that things were beginning to move in a positive direction, he then started displaying episodes of different feature. Doctors have tried several medications, with no relief what so ever. Through much testing, and hospital stays locally, as well as in Boston Children's hospital, we recently received a call from Boston Children's letting us know, yet more uncomprehendable news. Benjamin has now been diagnosed with not only PTSD, but ALSO a new on set of TWO different types seizure activity on BOTH sides of his brain. Seizure free for 13 years, to where he is now... there are no words for the sadness, fear, and heartbreaking thoughts of what is to come for Benjamin. We will be traveling back and forth to Boston Children's hospital frequently, for testing and two different types of surgery that need to take place. We are waiting for the call to begin the process of yet more testing in Boston, as well as the separate surgery admissions. * August 17th *
