Come Celebrate A Life by Helping Cultivate the Future of Another, "A Seed Today is a Forest Tomorrow"--Matshona Dhliwa

Benjamin Blais was an enthusiastic, motivated, young man that lived everyday with purpose.  If you talked with many of his friends from Root 5 Farm in Vermont he was always literally running to others to be of more help.  In his short time on this earth, he touched many lives because of his meaningful and thoughtful way.  Growing up Ben was shy and reserved.  In Middle School, because of a scholarship, he was able to attend Hebron Academy.  Hebron Academy and the experience it provided helped to engage and challenge him to be the more socially confident man he grew to be.

Ben was an avid Hiker and lover of nature.  He was a member of the Maine Appalachian Trail Club & The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association.  Straight out of high school he hiked the Appalachian Trail which only took him 4 months and 10 days.  His Trail family knew him by his trail name, "Quickstep."

Following his thru-hike, he attended SUNY and UMO, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science.  After graduation, he took a position as a farmer at Root 5 Farm in Vermont for 3 season.  He also worked with his Father as a foundryman at the Auburn Stove Foundry during the off-season.

Ben's passion for farming led him to starting his own organic farm on the land that his great-grandfather and father both farmed on.  Ben also enjoyed cooking the things that he grew.  It wasn't a family function without Ben's butternut squash at the table.  He had a passion for music, he was a self-taught guitarist and loved to write his own music.  He also was an avid hockey player and skater.  However, his greatest passion was spending quality time with his family and friends.

Ben's Family wants to continue his memory and share a small part of his spirit by giving  the opportunity for local Maine students who otherwise would not have the means to attend Hebron Academy.
