My dad had been sick for about a year after his diagnosis with IPF. Unfortunately on Aug 23rd he was rushed to the ICU due to not being able to breathe. He had been battling COPD and emphysema for years prior as well. He was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer about 2 weeks ago and had gone in for a petscan on Monday Aug 20th. My mom had talked to the Dr on the morning of the 23rd and he had informed her that the cancer was actually in every part of his body from his collar bones down passed his pelvis along with several large tumors. Thankfully all of the immediate family was able to see him and spend time with him Friday. All of the grandchildren were able to feel him squeeze their hands and listen to them tell him how much they loved him. After everyone had left Friday evening, mom had stayed with dad until they gave him another round of pain medication to help him slow his breathing and relax a bit. After taking care of some things at their house we had gone home to get cleaned up and try to get some rest. Shortly after being home, mom had called me with some very unfortunate news.  Dad had passed away around 10:40pm Friday evening. We drove back up to the hospital to meet with mom to help comfort her and get things in order for the next steps with dad. We were leaving Cy-Fair hospital on 1960 around 2:20am or so after releasing dad to the funeral home. We had pulled out of the parking lot with mom maybe 3 car lengths behind us. We pull up to the intersection at steeplechase and 1960 with us having a green light. We had just made the turn onto 1960 when I saw a flash fly by me, a sudden impact and watched mom get struck in my rearview mirror by someone who ran a red light. Bobbie said I jumped out of the car so fast that I may have not put it in park fully to begin running back to mom. She thankfully jumped into the driver seat and parked the car. Running and yelling for mom, I run passed the guy who hit her hearing him say "omg did I hit her...who did I hit". When I got to the passenger side of the truck and opened the door, I noticed mom had been knocked unconscious. 2 gentlemen that were apparently behind mom stopped and helped me pull mom out because the car that hit her began to smoke, filling moms truck with smoke. Once we got her out of the truck I held her screaming for her to wake up. Apparently there was an officer already heading down 1960 in our direction and called in back up. Mom was unconscious for about 2-2.5min when she finally fluttered her eyes and opened them. Confused, she placed her hand on my hand that was supporting her head on my chest. The ambulance had finally arrived and began asking questions. She had enough snap in her to blurt out her birth year when they asked for her birthday because I couldn't remember the year. She was able to stand on her own and sit on the stretcher so that they could load her into the ambulance. I had Bobbie head back over to the hospital to meet her there when she arrived. Me being exhausted, angry, distraught and beyond high on adrenaline, I  began picking up the pieces to moms truck and some belongings that had fallen out when we got her out. I stuck around the accident until I had info of where the truck was and an officer instructed me to go to the hospital to be with mom and that he would be there shortly. After getting mom in a room with all of us there she squeezed my hand and said "I'm ok man". As the nurses were drawing blood and hooking her up to an IV we were all asking her questions and what seemed to be our normal light hearted conversations. My sister was there at that point with us. After probably an hour or so they took her back for a CT scan of her head, neck, chest and hip (just had a hip revision surgery 10 weeks ago). After she was back in the room she said she felt fine other than starting to feel the affects of everything. But she was smiling, carrying on conversations and laughing with us. She was discharged that morning and I got her home around 6:40am. She was able to get a little bit of rest and we will start figuring out our life from this point forward. Thank every single one of you that has reached out or commented on my other post. I love you all.

We are in need of getting funds together so that we can give dad the burial he deserves, help mom get a new truck and take care of all of medical bills that are soon to follow. The truck was that mom was in was dads truck and now that has also been taken away from her.
