Officer Goodwin served the University City Division of CMPD and had just returned from maternity leave after the birth of her third child. Due to a horrible vehicle collision on Interstate 85 involving a tractor-trailer truck in the early hours of 12/22/2021, Officer Mia was killed, leaving behind her three children and husband, who serves as a Fire Fighter. <div>A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer early Wednesday on Interstate 85 in northeast Charlotte, according to CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings.

<div>The collision, which appeared to involve a tractor-trailer and at least two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department vehicles, happened around 3:40 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Exit 45, at W.T. Harris Boulevard.

<div>Just before 8:30 a.m., Chief Jennings tweeted “It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of CMPD Officer Mia Goodwin.”
