Hello from Comoros! I hope everyone is doing well, I know I haven't been great about keeping up with everyone and I'm sorry to hear about everything that is happening in America. If you even need to get away... COME ON OVER!!
So I am reaching out to you to help me help my school! WOOT WOOT! The secondary school that I get to teach at has many challenges. A little goes a long way here and will make a big difference for these students. Last year there were 5 classrooms that we couldn't teach in because the cement roof was falling in. Often times, teachers and students come to school ready to teach and learn and don't have a classroom. Teachers would teach unscheduled classes because a class was available, and I couldn't teach my scheduled class because there was no class available. You can imagine all of the headaches this created. The community has gotten together and raised money for new roofs to be built. I would like to provide new benches and blackboards to fill the classrooms. Supposedly, school starts on Monday but everything in Comoros has a soft start so I'll keep you updated. Another common problem is that the teachers strike due to not being paid by the government. As of now they haven't been paid for the months they taught in June and July so there are rumors that we might strike but hopefully NOT!! Cross your fingers. Despite the barriers that these students go through, especially the females, I am inspired by the dedication of the students to show up day after day. Some students walk miles to the school where there isn't any water or bathrooms and the heat is draining. I personally don't know how far I would have made it in school system here when there is work to be done at home. Hand wash the clothes, wash the dishes, cook, clean, and go to the farm to plant or pick the food. IT'S EXHAUSTING! So long story short I really appreciate my parents and all of you for helping me receive my education. (it might not be done...)

I know Mary Claire could single handily fund this project after 6 nights of babysitting buttttt i'll let her save her money for some big girl college books!
