My name is  Sabine and we adopted 3 little baby cats who were found in the trash from the local animal rescue organization Benawara and Esther Campos who helped us with organizing everything. Some days ago we had a huge fire on the island of La Palma which also affected a lot of street animals. Therefore we would like to raise awareness to collect some money and good energy to help the local non-profit organization Benawara with the team of volunteers around Esther Campos (founder of the organization) who are so beautifully, selflessly and with all their hearts taking care of the cats and dogs to give them a voice.

The Association for the Protection of Animals and Plants Benawara of La Palma is a non-profit association, based in Los Llanos de Aridane. Despite the difficulties it faces due to not having a physical office at present, the main purpose of the association is to help and protect abandoned and stray animals; it feeds, sterilizes, rescues, provides shelter, trains and finds a forever home to those animals most in need.

We are a group of volunteers that dedicate our time and effort to achieve these goals and purely driven by altruistic reasons.

In exceptional circumstances like the wildfire that affected the municipalities of El Paso and Los Llanos de Aridane last week, we were swamped by the number of calls and emergencies that occurred that day, the amount of animals that needed rescuing, and the small number of people available to help. Everything happened so fast and we were completely alone and unprepared.

There were three of us the day of the wildfire; we loaded our cars with pet carriers and drove off to the affected area to help evacuate animals and people, trying to outpace the fire rescuing stray cats until the last minute.

The days after the wildfire have not been easy either, as we are seeing many lost and wounded animals so our priority is to help them and find their families.

Thanks to your amazing help, we have been able to find, rescue and bring animals to the vet, but we have also felt supported at every step of the way when facing such an unprecedented and difficult situation, which was worsened by the lack of resources and official protocols where wildlife is considered. So sad!

Many animals unfortunately, have not been able to survive, but we will look after the ones that did and make sure they go back to their families and homes.

We keep asking for your help and solidarity, so any small amount of money you can spare for this cause will help us continue helping the animals most in need.

El día del incendio, las tres personas que estábamos, cogimos coches, cargamos de transportines, y fuimos a la zona del incendio por dónde podíamos entrar, para ayudar a evacuar animales y personas, y adelantarnos al fuego, rescatando gatos de colonias hasta donde pudimos llegar...

Los días posteriores no están siendo mejores, pues han ido apareciendo animales heridos, perdidos, desorientados y la prioridad ha sido y sigue siendo la de darles auxilio y encontrar a sus dueños.

Y GRACIAS A VUESTRA SOLIDARIDAD, se han podido encontrar, rescatar y llevar animales al veterinario, pero también nos hemos SENTIDO ARROPADAS en todo momento, ante una situación difícil de afrontar, por LA FALTA DE MEDIOS Y PROTOCOLOS OFICIALES DONDE SE CONTEMPLEN A LOS ANIMALES, ORGANIZADOS POR AUTORIDADES,

¡muy triste!

Muchos animales desgraciadamente, no se han podido salvar, pero nos quedamos con todos los que siguen vivos y el regreso a sus hogares.
