August 22nd, James & Malia Brackpool prematurely welcomed Ben Nathaniel to this world - 13 weeks early.
He only weighed 2 lbs, 11 oz at birth. While everyone is more than grateful that Malia survived the life-threatening delivery, Baby Ben’s health is still at risk.
As a result of being a ‘preemie’, Baby Ben has developed respiratory distress and cardiac complications.
Ben will be required to reach full development with the expert care and attention of the excellent doctors and nurses at the Regina General NICU.
Until that time and as much as possible, Malia will be staying at the Rawlco Centre Hostel, but at $450/month+GST (before things like groceries and amenities) the cost quickly adds up, as do multiple trips to and from Regina.
Having two school-aged children in Weyburn and one critically ill baby in hospital in Regina has stretched this little family emotionally and financially.
