Ben, my nephew, is a great kid with a big, smart brain that knows how to spell like a champ!
A Regional Champ, that is, with an invitation to Nationals!
And with YOUR help and support, he'll be headed to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC to compete this May!!!
At age 11, Ben has qualified to represent the State of Florida and his school,CSCA, at the ACSI National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. this year. It takes place over the weekend of May 4th and 5th 2018.
We are all so proud of him!
Ben started competing in his school Spelling Bee back in Kindergarten and has competed every year since. Last year, in 5th grade, Ben made it to the Regional Bee and finished 17th. As he was walking out of that competition he told his mom,
"I want to go to Washington DC next year! I'm going to do it! " And he made the decision at that moment to work toward his dream.
Now in 6th grade, Ben finished 1st place in the 6th grade ACSI District Spelling competition in February, which qualified him to compete in the Championship Round where he earned a spot on the district team that would compete at the ACSI Regional competition held on March 10th. At the Regional Bee Ben placed 3rd, which qualified him for this year's ACSI National Spelling Bee!
Ben worked diligently to prepare for the District and Regional bees this year.
Spelling with his friends and English teacher after school, spelling at home everyday while running in the house, sitting at the table, laying on the floor, spelling in the car, in the park, you see what I mean.
So what advice did he receive from the Regional Spelling Director to prepare for the national competition?
Study the 2000 published word list and the Merriam-Websters 11th edition dictionary!! Wow that is a lot of words!
Ben is digging deep to keep the momentum going to get this chance to make it to the National competition!
It is all such a blessing, but is also adding a lot of expenses at one time, so I wanted to find a way to help support Ben's dream of going to the National Spelling Bee and thought you may want to as well!
