My dad, Ben Copeland, has been going though a lot in the last few weeks. He had a sore come up on the BOTTOM of his left foot so went to his doctor for antibiotics that he took over the weekend. By Monday morning at the ER, his foot was red, swollen and another sore had come up on the TOP of his foot which was open and seeping!

They immediately admitted him and after running lots of tests over the next couple of days, and the foot getting worse, the Doctors went in to clean out (debris) the wound.  Still the wound kept getting bigger and looking worse - obviously not healing like they thought. It was then that the Doctors ran more tests and found 90% blockage in the same left leg. While still undergoing a heavy regimen of antibiotics and blood thinners, they fixed three blockages in his left leg - with two more they'll have to fix later in right leg! We were all so hopeful that he would soon be home and back to work.

Although hopeful that opening the artery would help circulation, the wound has progressed to where bones and tendons are exposed, leaving very little to enable it to close and heal. On this third week of hospitalization, he has had  five specialists on his case and just got transferred to an acute care facility with a 10% chance of saving his toe, and a 50% chance of saving his foot. This was NOT the news we were looking for at all! My father is a God fearing man that  knows who has his back. He is very high in spirits and not even pain can bring him down. He stills smiles and knows that God has a plan, but if you know my father he will not ask for help.

My dad is the sole provider for his household - he and my step-mom have been raising two grand-kids who have always lived with them. It has been a tough time, I know they need help financially. They give so freely and never ask for anything unless they absolutely need it. In fact, I had to beg him to let me set this up for those who want to help. They have taken all steps possible to do this on their own (short-term disability, etc.). Unfortunately, with all the extra expense and little income, he is worried more about losing their home than getting well, which can't be good for his healing.

All I'm asking for is help for him, every dollar will help ease his mind.  Just as important are your prayers for healing during this time. Thanks to those that are being so supportive in this time of need.

God Bless,
Heather Copeland
