Help 2 Belmont-Cragin Families After a Fire

On behalf of Marisol's and Luisa's families– thank you! To each and every one of you who have donated dollars, supplies, clothing, food, and more, your gift contributed to each family receiving $3,310 to help cover costs of moving and rebuilding. On July 1st, Luisa, a Belmont Cragin resident and single mother, got a call from her landlord saying her house had caught fire after being hit from fireworks nearby. Thankfully, none of Luisa's children, ages 15, 8, and 5 were home, and neither was her mother, age 65 who lives with them.
Luisa's friend and neighbor, Marisol, who shares an address at this residence, also had her apartment catch on fire and lost everything as well. Marisol is a single mom to six children, grades 1st through high school. At the time of the fire, Marisol and her children were home, and while they made it out, she and her two youngest children suffered minor burns. Her family also sadly lost their cat.
Both women shared they lost everything in their homes. Luisa shared, "I'm a single mom, working hard for my three kids. And we lost everything– our clothes, furniture, jewelry, memories– everything." Sadly, the family's cat was inside and died during the fire.
Luisa's and Marisol's family do not have a safety net to recover these losses. Luisa said she will have to move. Currently, she and her kids are staying with family and friends, but for the moment are split up. Marisol's family worked with the Red Cross to stay at a hotel for a few nights, but afterwards she shared they have no idea where to stay.
Luisa and Marisol would appreciate, and will split 50/50, any funds raised through this GoFundMe to help with urgent expenses for clothing, food and health/hygiene supplies, and upcoming moving costs as they both search for new homes.
