Aleida and Jack's Bello Horizonte

The money raised here will go directly toward Tinto and Bello Horizonte, in Rincón, Puerto Rico, and any funds that exceed our needs will be used to aid and revitalize the community.

Hurricane Maria has devastated the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, home to so many of our friends and family. My aunt and uncle, Aleida Mejias and Jack Griek, along with my cousin, Nasinne Campos, own and operate two small businesses in the wonderful beach town of Rincón: the new Tinto Wine Shop and the gorgeous Bello Horizonte vacation rental, which takes its name from the beautiful views of its elevated location off Highway 413—a narrow, winding route, known to locals and travelers as “The Road to Happiness.”

If you’ve been to Rincón, you know that it’s a truly magical place, filled with loving, generous people who’ve come from all over the world to enjoy the ocean, sunshine, and warmth. My grandparents live in the nearby barrio of Cruces de Aguada, and, while we are currently making plans to bring them back to the States, Aleida, Jack, and Nasinne are understandably and admirably devoted to restoring their businesses. They support themselves through the success of Bello and Tinto, and, beyond that, like many small-business owners, they contribute meaningfully to the fabric of their community.

There are many ways to provide relief to those who are struggling in the aftermath of Maria. This is just one small and very personal way. My family is so incredibly fortunate: We’re large, strong, and close. We have many options and we are exploring them all. The money raised here will go directly toward Tinto and Bello Horizonte, and any funds that exceed our needs will be used to aid and revitalize the community. If you would like to help in additional ways, you can find a number of other relief efforts here and here .

Things are difficult now, but I am absolutely certain that we will restore our beautiful horizon. I’m looking forward to being there again—swinging in a hammock, swimming in the pool, or just taking in the view before strolling over to Tinto for some delicious wine and tapas. I would love for us all to visit together. Let’s make that happen!

With love, thank you.
