Bellingham Arts & Music Community Relief

Updated Jan 18, 2021:

The arts  and music  industries have been suffering in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bellingham’s creative community is no exception. In the Spring of 2020, Make.Shift and former-Executive Director, Katie Gray, created this fund to support creative individuals who were financially impacted by the shut-downs and restrictions on in-person gatherings. The first $3,000 in donations was reserved to meet Make.Shift’s immediate losses in 2020. Our incredibly giving community exceeded that amount, and by December 2020 we were able to begin distributing funds to individual artists.

Luckily thanks to grants from state and local governments, Make.Shift has been able to remain relatively stable during this turbulent time. The same cannot be said for many individual artists, musicians, and people working in local venues who have lost income due the pandemic.

If you have the resources, please pitch in help our scene make it through this ongoing crisis. If you are an artist in need of support, please click here to apply .

Donations will help musicians, artists, and those working in the creative sector who need support with rent, food, utilities, and medical costs. The current Make.Shift Executive Director, Jessyca Murphy, along with the Make.Shift Board of Directors will review applications and distribute funds. The amounts given will be determined by the amount of funds received, each individual's calculated loss, and how many people apply. If you have questions, feel free to send us a message. See below for FAQ.

Currently (as of January 2021), we are dividing funds equally among all applicants on a monthly basis. If requests greatly exceed the amount of donations we are receiving, then priority will be given to applicants who have been historically and systemically disadvantaged: BIPOC, transgender & nonbinary, and disabled applicants. We will try to help as many people as we can, as long as we have funds.
