Eddie's Wheels, located in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, designs and manufacturers carts and/or wheelchairs for dogs with disabilities. This company successfully helps loving pets become bipedal. There is no question that Eddie's Wheels knows how to provide animals with a better quality of life.
Ten years ago, we were blessed by Isabella, a German Shepherd mix. Or, as we call her, Bella. We are lucky that she continues to bless us. Before Bella became a part of our family, we never knew how joyful and rewarding owning a dog could be. It is a challenge trying to describe how much happiness Bella has brought into our homes and our lives. We are riddled with love.
Unfortunately, sadness has become a part of this equation. At nine-years-old, Bella was diagnosed with canine degenerative myelopathy, a neurological disease that attacks the spinal cord causing progressive paralysis. This disease is very similar to Lou Gehrig's disease in people. There is no known cure.
In dealing with this situation, we felt that improving Bella's quality of life was the sole primary option to offer our dear family member. It was that simple. And luckily, we found Eddie's Wheels, a company that specializes in crafting carts and wheelchairs for furry friends. Bella was given a second chance with her cart. She is as active now as she has ever been. With her wheelchair, Bella can endure long walks at the beach, the park, or simply, around the block. Bella is now ten and remains sweet, spunky, and full of kisses.
This is why I'm using the 2013 New York City Marathon as a platform to raise money for Bella's Gift, a fundraiser to help disabled dogs get wheelchairs/carts from Eddie's Wheels. Currently, there are two dogs that desperately need wheelchairs/carts. Please help reinvigorate these canines by offering them a second chance to live and to walk. This is being done in honor of Bella.
