Bellas Hip Replacement Fund

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to read my link. My name is Victoria and I’m owner to my beautiful 7 year old cinnamon chow chow called Bella. I'm certainly a massive animal lover and she is my world id be lost without her, she's my silent shadow and my fluffy rock whose helped me get through allot i love her to pieces.

I've spent the last few hours thinking about how I put into words what my little best friend means to me, what she now needs to go through and the circumstances which have left me to creating this page. Anyone who has a pet is a fellow dog lover will get exactly what I’m about to say.

Every owner’s worst nightmare happened to me this morning.... I woke up and found Bella physically couldn’t get up, she was in that much pain when I touched her and I had to help make a support to help get her to her feet to go for a wee. To say I was in pieces doesn’t come close and took her to the vets straight away. The vet gave her several injections of a cocktail of morphine anti inflammatories and very strong painkillers to sedate her and make her a bit more comfortable. They confirmed to me that her sudden deterioration was her telling me she's in severe arthritic pain from her hip dysplasia, and its time to get her re-x-rayed this coming week to see the extent of her condition now and see what they can do for her. I would say in the last few months she has deteriorated from being able to go on her usual favourite beach walk to struggling to get around the block which is heartbreaking in such a young, happy natured, gentle dog who is very much full of beans in her short chow chow bursts she has before her regular favourite naps.

Bella was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 6 months old and has always had a really high pain threshold this is not something that has limited her other than getting tired quicker than you would expect. I've always been conscious of keeping her weight down as this can be a main factor for obvious reasons; she now sits at 30kg. She's always had oily fish in her diet, lean meats, orthopaedic beds and anti inflammatory medication to help her when she's felt particularly stiff or uncomfortable.

I had recently contacted the bionic vet page (Mr Noel Fitzpatrick) as I’ve seen some of his amazing work and how he's changed the quality of life in so many pets. I was told I needed to be referred from my own specialist which is something I will speak about in upcoming consultations.

Bella will essentially need a two part hip replacement, one side done at different intervals in order to give her back her mobility and importantly put her out of the excruciating pain she's in now. As you'll appreciate this is a huge operation and I wouldn’t put her through anything that was unnecessary. In earlier consultations I know that the cost of this operation is approx £8K which I would pay in a heartbeat. Due to circumstances outside my control I no longer have my lifetime pet insurance and have no way of sourcing this kind of treatment without reaching out and asking for help, any money I do have Bella has always been my top priority and will continue to be.

I am due to attend a consultation following Bella's x-ray where I'll be told the full extent and condition of her hips as they stand now. All money kindly raised will go towards the operation, and I will keep you all updated as to her progress. I'm really worried that I might have to pay upfront for the operation; however, this is something I need to discuss with my vet also with it being such a large amount of money.

It has been really difficult to create this page and I never ask for help but I would do anything for Bella and embarrassment set aside she is all I care about and all I have - ultimately my best friend and furry rock. I've felt really emotional and overwhelmed by the whole prospect of what I know is coming and I’m so grateful for anyone who has taken the time to read the page and told me about how to do one.

I can’t express how happy it will make me seeing my chunky fur ball bouncing along the beach again pain free. Any help anyone can give no matter what this is is so gratefully received.

Thank you so much in advance.

Kindest regards

Victoria & Bella
