Hello Everyone, this is Amanda Hanson and I am here to rally global support for an incredible organization that is doing life-changing work in the dump of Guatemala City. This community has been forgotten and the people who live here make their living as scavengers in the dump. The mission of Believe Guatemala is to end generational poverty by providing the children here with an education, social/emotional support and tools in an effort to leave the dump and have a life that is no longer filled with despair.
Over the past four years we have built a restoration center for the children. A safe harbor where they go after school to receive homework support, psychological services and be in community with their peers, playing soccer or basketball in an effort to keep them off the streets while their parents are working. We currently have 40 children/teens who are sponsored and receive a private education. I travel there every year and as I prepare for my next trip I am aware that the program is in grave need of basic funding to simply employ the skeleton crew that we currently have, maintain the already old vehicles to transport the children to & from school and to provide a healthy lunch to the children each day, often their only meal of the day.
I would also like to invite anyone who is interested to join me and my daughter Maggie (born in Guatemala), March 18-23 as we spend time in service to these beautiful people. Their reality is excruciatingly harsh and nearly impossible to describe in words, but the work and service is holy & life changing. I realize that many are not able to take time away from work or family obligations and to those of you I ask for your financial help. You cannot imagine the power of $60,000 and how many lives you will change in making a contribution. I thank you for taking your precious time here and I welcome any and all support you are able to give.
