Hi, I'm Bek. I'm disabled but starting to get back on my feet. Though I'm maintaining a job, I've been hit with one health problem after another recently that's severely negatively affected my quality of life after depleting what little safety net I'd started to build up. The most pressing matter currently are some of my dental issues.
I have two partially erupted impacted wisdom teeth that cause me a lot of pain and make eating difficult. I was without dental insurance entirely until relatively recently, but even what I have doesn't cover much at all. I am more likely than not going to have to pay out of pocket for what all I need done. I already am paying out of pocket for trays and a consultation I had today, thinking my case would be much simpler than it actually was. After the dentist reviewed my xrays, he referred me to an oral surgeon and gave me a prescription for a hefty course of antibiotics so I don't get an infection in my jawbone while I wait for treatment.
There will be several weeks of waiting until I even get to see the surgeon for an initial consultation, during which time I have to figure out how I will pay for the much-needed surgery. I expressed to my dentist that an oral surgeon would more than likely be cost-prohibitive and he told me that there was a greater risk of something going wrong that may require further treatment if he were to remove my impacted wisdom teeth in his office. He told me to expect to pay around $200 more (than his office's quote of close to $800) for the removals at this Oral Surgeon's office... if I declined IV anesthesia, which could run up to an additional $500-600.
At absolute minimum I need to be able to pay for the consultation that I was never told the cost of and a riskier procedure with my dentist if I can't raise enough funds for all the oral surgeon's fees. I am very likely to have to decline IV anesthesia purely because of cost even though I would much prefer it due to anxiety and past medical-related trauma.
I would greatly appreciate anything anyone can contribute. Any money beyond my goal will go to my slightly less emergent dental issues and other medical costs. I will be happy to provide receipts upon request.
