Supporting Jordan Jeans

This past Thanksgiving, Jordan shared some devastating news with his family.  He had been diagnosed with a myeloproliferative disorder, a very rare form of leukemia.

Soon after, he began to experience severe joint and muscle pain in his legs, which made walking very difficult. It became so severe, he was unable to work or look after his children.

Then, all of a sudden in early January, Jordan began to lose vision and sensation in his legs.  Within days, he had been admitted to hospital, blind and paralyzed from the chest down.

After several MRIs, spinal taps, and blood tests he was diagnosed with a separate, more serious disease thought to be Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) or Devic’s disease. It is a rare auto-immune condition consisting of the simultaneous inflammation and demyelination of the optic nerve and the spinal cord, leading to vision loss and paralysis.

Jordan’s treatment has consisted of high dose steroid therapy and plasma exchange to settle the inflammation in his body. Thankfully Jordan has seen improvement in his vision and leg strength, but he has a long road ahead.

To get Jordan back home and manage his conditions he will need extensive rehabilitation, modifications to his home, frequent monitoring, and medication to treat his symptoms.

Unfortunately, these diagnoses are extremely rare and little information is known of what the future holds or if he may relapse again. This will be exceptionally difficult on Jordan and his young family.  With focus on his health and recovery, our goal is to eliminate other sources of stress, including the financial impact on the family.

We are aiming, with your help, to reduce this pressure as much as possible. We are reaching out to you for your continued support and financial help.  Any donation would be appreciated.

Love,

Jordan’s Family
