Beguiling + Little Island + P&P Staff Support Fund

Yo! I’m Victor Martins, and I work at Little Island Comics. GoFundMe asked for more clarity re: the specifics of how the money is being distributed, so here’s some more info: Jenn is managing the campaign because she has previous GoFundMe experience, and we trust her unconditionally! I'm leading communication and outreach, having two leads is meant to ensure accountability.
There’s a shared spreadsheet of clearly marked incoming & outgoing funds. We asked all the staff members to fill this out and identify their needs. All staff members have self-sorted into priority levels: Level A is immediate need (rent & living). Level B could use some help, but aren’t in immediate trouble. Level C folks are not currently in need. The funds raised will then be sent to the staff via e-mail transfers from the managing account for this campaign.
We are hoping to help our staff as soon as possible!

We are the staff of three Toronto-based independent comic book shops: The Beguiling, Page and Panel, and Little Island Comics. You might know us from when you had to ask someone to go get Naruto 3-in-1 volumes 4-5-6 to 70-71-72 from downstairs, that time you really needed a book recommendation for your kid who really liked Bone and Amulet and Dog Man (but is scared of lizards, so no books with lizards, please), the day we complimented you on your excellent taste in Moomin mugs, or our silky smooth social media presence. Hello!
We love our jobs, and take great pride in doing them well. Unfortunately, things are tough right now, and a lot of us are having trouble making ends meet. So we’re turning to you, the community we serve, to ask for help in staying fed and housed in the immediate future!
Because of how hard small businesses have been hit by COVID-19, the stores at which we work are either closed or only open in a very limited capacity, offering delivery and curbside pick-up. There is not enough money coming in to pay everyone, and not enough shifts to go around. As a result of all of these rapid changes, we have all been laid off to some degree, had our hours severely cut, or chosen to self isolate due to possible exposure to the virus.
We will all be returning to work at some point, and are excited to do so! However, it is impossible for us to know how long this closure will last. We are running this fundraiser in order to support the staff between all three stores until we can all return to work!
We are excellent at our jobs. They have become important to each of us and who we are, and we gather that they are important to you, too. The stores where we work have incredible reputations, and each offers a one-of-a-kind experience which the staff has created with love, dedication, and expertise.
If you’ve ever stopped by our stores and asked us for a recommendation, if you’ve ever attended one of our events, heck, if you’ve ever been to TCAF, you have benefited from our care and expertise!
We’re really looking forward to the end of this pandemic, and the eventual re-opening of The Beguiling, Little Island, and Page & Panel. We can’t wait to have our stores re-open and get back to working with each other and our communities of customers! We just need a little help getting through this.
