Becky West's Recovery Fund

In May of 2021, my momma was hospitalized with intense pain in her stomach. Six weeks later the pain returned and within a few hours she was diagnosed with cancer (later to be identified as "bi-phenotypic acute leukemia"). This was a shock to our little family - me, ma, and our weenie-huahua Plato.

It has been a long and scary road - but our burden was made lighter by all of the love we've received. So many people cooked us meals, held our hands, drove mom to appointments, walked plato, and so much more. A few close friends even traveled all the way to Boise to spend nights with a chemo-sick Becky. 

Most overwhelming - over 300 of our friends, family, and strangers donated over $30,000 to help us navigate this experience. Without that money I don't know what we would have done. We didn't have to worry about how to scrounge up rent, or put food on the table, or fly me back and forth across the country. We're so grateful for this blessing.

It became clear that me trying to sustain a life in New York City while making sure mom got the care she deserved back in Idaho was not going to work. In January, I packed up my things to head west and relocate to Boise. The Gofundme donations made that possible. Since being back home - mom, Plato, and I have spent quality time together every single day. It is the happiest I've ever been. In March, we danced to live Brazilian music at Treefort Festival. In April, we got to drive to the Oregon Coast and see the ocean. Thank you for making this possible. 

Becky's recent tests show no signs of cancer (yay!!!), but with this type of leukemia the threat of relapse is high. We are strong spirits, but it takes hard work to wake up and face that every day. 

Being sick is expensive and recovery from chemo is hell. When I'm not helping mom out I still am able to work part-time, but the support from gofundme is still really crucial for us. So if you have something to spare, we're more than grateful - but if you're living paycheck to paycheck, please take care of yourself. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
