Becky (Cohoon) Manning (45) was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma lung cancer in January of 2018.  Becky is an outdoor athlete and has never smoked or experienced secondhand smoke.   Becky recognized her lung problem six months before her repeated doctor visits accomplished a diagnosis.

Becky works full time as the director of an acclaimed athletic and aquatic center in upstate NY and carries the insurance  for the family.  Becky has lived her life devoted to God and encouraging and leading others in outdoor education and nature studies. Becky and her husband of 19 years, Peter, have two young sons, Asher (3) and Finnegan(8) .

Becky has been accepted as a patient at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan.  A sucessful surgery to remove tumorous material  was performed on 16 february and all tests from lymph nodes and margins returned negative. A larger incision was necessary. The doctor indicated that we are off to a good start. This will be a long recovery. and Becky needs to stay in the hospital longer than initially anticipated and the costs are increasing.  We are still awaiting further information from the surgery and medical staff on how long she will be there.  Becky was in the operating recovery for two days before getting moved to a room at Sloan Kettering. Her care has been attentive and excellent.

There continutes to be a huge financial burden on the family, not just in medical expenses but overall increased costs and lowered income in missed work.

This family is thankful for the enormous support of the community but still needs your help to brace for the coming months and the exorbitant costs of treatment and non-medical expenses.  Becky’s medical care over the next many months will be at the Sloan Kettering centers in NYC (4 hours away) and Albany (1.5 hours away). Every travelling appointment creates extra expenses, costs this working family cannot afford.  Becky will be unable to work for at least a month after surgery and we don’t know future treatment plans.

Please keep them in your prayers and if you can afford to donate to help offset out of pocket costs as they navigate this uncharted territory, we would be forever grateful.

Becky (Cohoon) Manning is a 1991 graduate of West Chester East High School and earned a B.A. from Gordon College in 1995.
