We are so excited to be expecting our first child in July. What a joy it will be to welcome our baby into the world this summer 2018! Our road during pregnancy has not been an easy one. In November, we faced Becca’s loss of employment, housing and comprehensive insurance coverage, and were forced to move to a new island where we have started to rebuild our lives. These changes brought challenges that naturally arise amid enormous life transitions. Yet, we’ve never lost sight of what is truly important and to be celebrated in this life; our love for one another, our friends, and our family, and the desire to share that love with our child.
After much thought, we realized that creating a baby registry for gifts and clothing for our little one is not what we desire. What truly resonates with us is the ability to bring our baby into the world in the safe and loving environment of our own home.

We have decided to have a home birth, which is not covered by Becca’s current health plan. In lieu of traditional baby gifts, have started this campaign to help us fund our amazing and talented birth team. Having the baby in a hospital setting is something that does not feel comfortable or ideal for us, and as this is our first birth, we want to do everything we can to feel more in control of this blessed experience.
We feel very lucky to have found such an amazing midwife to help us deliver our baby. With 40+ years of experience, she has delivered over 3,000 babies, is a Registered Nurse, and comes to the house fully equipped with emergency medical training and equipment. Luckily, we live only 5 minutes away from the hospital in Wailuku, so if any emergencies arise that are beyond her scope, we are confident that we will be close to a facility that can take the utmost care of us.
Ideally, we need to pay our midwife in full before our delivery. Our baby is due July 9th, 2018. The financial goal of this campaign covers all of my prenatal care, the birth, newborn exam, and all three at-home postpartum visits.
Your contribution toward our goal will help us tremendously. We love and appreciate our family, friends and extended community so much and we appreciate your helping us ensure a safe homebirth for our baby, surrounding him with calm and a sense of peace and love.
